Spring Has Arrived in South Jersey – and so have the festivals

Spring is here and that means children and adults alike get to spend more time outside and time for local outdoor events and festivals. Residents of the towns of South Jersey don’t need to travel far to find a fun spring event to spend the day with their family. To help narrow down the options, the staff at Bright Beginnings Academy has created a list of favored events happening in Camden and Gloucester counties:

Collingswood, NJ

10th Annual Collingswood Green Festival

Saturday, April 28th

Join your friends and neighbors at Collingswood’s 10th Annual Green Festival, to celebrate all things green, spring and recycled. Learn about smart green living, local sustainable food, organic gardening, water conservation, renewable energy, environmentally-friendly construction, and more. Vendors will include local eateries, farms and artisans.

Activities for kids in the Fun Zone will include face painting, sidewalk chalk drawing, games and crafts. While the nearby Bike Rodeo area offers a series of fun bike-centric activities for kids and their bikes.

Bring your recycling to the Green Festival: Free paper shredding, Electronics recycling drop off, Household hazardous water collections, and more.

Williamstown, NJ

3rd Annual Main Street Williamstown Arts Festival

The Arts festival features artisans displaying and selling their original hand produced work, such as, oil and acrylic paintings;watercolors; photography; jewelery; metal and wood work; and much more. While strolling past our Art and Craft Vendors, families can enjoy a variety of food, and adults can enjoy craft beer, from our own micro-breweries. If you prefer, enjoy wine from the local winery.

Three live bands will preform during the day: Poor Mouth Henry; Bob Fergusons New Orleans Quintet; and the Jazztones. Additionally a return special performance, this year, by the Shades of Harmony – all woman Acapella Singers. People of all ages will have a fun day in Williamstown.

Cherry Hill, NJ

Cherry Hill Earth Festival

South Jersey’s largest eco event, the 9th Annual Sustainable Cherry Hill Earth Festival, will take place at Croft Farm on Saturday, April 28th. This year’s theme is “Reduce Plastic – Fantastic!”

Earth Festival visitors will experience 90+ earth-friendly vendors, educational and non-profit groups; two stages of entertainment; and enjoy healthy food choices. The day will start with our two and nine-mile Family Fun Bike Ride. There will be a plant swap (bring a wrapped, labeled division from your garden and take home a new perennial), in addition to a kids craft activities – Collect bottle caps and bring them to create bottle cap plastic creatures!

Mullica Hill, NJ

Gloucester County Craftsmen & Home Fair

Springtime has arrived in Gloucester County, just in time for the decorating and remodeling projects that have been put off all winter. Families visiting the Craft Show can shop from over 100 artists and craftsmen, enjoy delicious food, watch a horse show, and get ideas for home decorating.

Come out and talk to the professionals about your next home improvement projects. Home Show companies representing hundreds of products and services will be on hand to help make spring home renovation ideas come to life!

Shoppers enjoy garden supplies, live music, festival food, product demonstrations, All Breed Spring Dog Parade & Contest, Little Miss & Mister Springtime Pageant, Terra Cotta Pot Creations, exhibits, Farm Produce, Home Based Businesses, Baked Goods, pony rides, face painter, bounce inflatables, give-a-ways & picnic style dining. Gloucester Craft & Home Show is a pet friendly event and consumers are asking to donate a can of pet food for shelters. Admission and parking is free.

Washington Township will host its annual Super Saturday Celebration on Saturday, May 12th at the Washington Lake Park Amphitheater. What makes Super Saturday so ‘super’ is that it truly embodies the spirit of the community. It’s like an old-fashioned town fair complete with amusement rides, family entertainment, great food and colorful, attractive vendor displays to browse and shop. Of course the best part is bumping into all of your old friends and neighbors. The annual event is a traditional crowd pleaser in Washington Township. It’s like a homecoming right there in the park.

Mullica Hill Arts Festival

Paws & Feet 5K Race & Doggie Fun Day

Paws and Feet 5K Race and Doggie Fun Day, presented by the Camden County Board of Freeholders, is the Animal Welfare Association’s largest community event and celebrates the bond between humans and their pets. The day includes live music, food, activities, and games for the entire family. Festivities kick off with a 5K run and walk and a one-mile fun walk and concludes with a Doggie Fun Day. Pitman Craft Shows

The Pitman Craft Shows have been a town tradition for more than 30 years. The festivals boast more than 200 crafters, all displaying their handmade wares, and attracts upwards of 10,000 shoppers.

The shows are held in the main corridors of Pitman, along Broadway and Pitman Ave., in the heart of Uptown Pitman. Shoppers will find many seasonal items. Vendors at both shows sell a variety of crafts, ranging from jewelry to florals, wood crafts and hand sewn items, fresh foods from vendors and Pitman’s own eateries, and much much more. Many of the local non-profits also participate in the festival to support their fundraisers, truly making this a community affair. Come experience this fun Pitman tradition!

Camden County Rails-with-Trails

In celebration of Opening Day for Trail, Camden County is hosting a Rails-with-Trails Pop Up event. The event will close down Atlantic Avenue in Haddon Heights from 11 AM to 2 PM with a press event and bike ride starting at 10 AM, on Atlantic Ave from Audubon to Barrington, then at 11 AM open to the public for family fun in Haddon Heights. Attendees are encouraged to learn about the upcoming Rails-with-Trails project with renderings, facts, food, family fun, and a bike give-away. This Rails-with-Trails event is a preview of what is to come once the Rails-with Trails project is completed in bringing multi-use trails through twelve Camden County communities.

Family Day of Service

Adults, children, and students have the opportunity to serve alongside one another while giving back to their local community. Fit & Fun Festival

Feeling fit is more fun when you’re with the whole family – and Camden Children’s Garden can help make that happen. During the Fit & Fun Festival on May 27 and 28, you can find ideas for a healthy lifestyle, including physical activities and nutritious eating tips.

Visit “tattoo” both, a guessing booth, make a silly clown face. Try hopscotch, using a hula hoop, jumping rope. Purchase cracker jacks or animal crackers. Visitors can also ride the carousel and train, visit the Butterfly House.The festival is included with park admission, and children who come dressed as their favorite sports hero or a circus clown will receive $1 off of admission.

Collingswood, NJ

39th Annual May Fair

Walk more than a mile of art galleries and craft booths where 200+ artists and crafters will display and sell their unique creations in a juried show at Collingswood’s 39th Annual May Fair. Children will have their day of fun in the “KidZone” featuring pony rides, carnival games, rides and children-friendly crafters. Multiple stages of live music will feature blues, rock, folk and more. The food vendors will offer everything from pulled pork to fancy desserts! And, don’t forget to browse the antique and classic auto show.
